9-1-2012 and 9-2-2012 Midwest Tandem Rally in Middleton, WI

What an amazing day this has been.  First off I just want to take a minute to tell everyone what a beautiful area this is to bicycle in.  Yes, the hills can be tough but the scenery makes up for it.  Absolutely gorgeous fertile farm land with rolling hills, rivers, and lakes.

On Saturday John and I had decided to just do a 13 mile ride with Marsha and Bill Peters.  We are still recovering from our ride in the heat and the hills on Thursday so we decided to just take a short ride and then spend the rest of the time at the hotel.  We had our presentation of our Northern Tier Bicycle ride at 5:30 so we wanted to make sure that the projector and everything was set up and ready to go when we needed it to.  We were so pleased at the turn out at the presentation.  There were approx. 80 chairs and for a while it was standing room only.  Everyone showed so much interest in our sharing our experience and asked so many questions.  We just really enjoyed sharing our adventure with the group.  Afterwards about 20 of us went across the road from the hotel for dinner.

On Sunday we did the remote start ride that started in Cross Plains.  Bill and Dana Brown transported our bike and the two of us out to Cross Plains and we started biking from there.  Once again beautiful terrain, great weather, and biking with great friends.  What more could you ask for?  We did approx. 52 miles that day and we treated ourselves to an ice cream cone at Culvers once we completed the ride.

We had the banquet at the hotel tonight and John and I received the award for bicyling 190 miles to get to the Midwest Tandem Rally.  John and Joan Laabs and their committee really have done a wonderful job of putting this Midwest Tandem Rally together.  Everything from the hotel, bike storage, registration, lunch stops, and the routes were organized and everything really seemed to run smoothly.  Deb VeerKamp put together a DVD of pictures that were taken during the MTR and created a video to music that was played during the social hour.  That was fun just to see a lot of the pictures other people took during there bike rides.

We were so excited to have our friends Steve and Michelle join us for our presentation and then to go out to eat with us.  Last year when we arrived back in Madison from our Bar Harbor bicycle trip we stopped and visited with Steve and Michelle.  They were starting there amazing journey the very next day by bicycling from Waunakee, WI to Washington DC.  They arrived  in Washington DC in  September and then flew to South Africa where they have spent the last 13 months setting up a library for the underprivileged students in the area.  What an incredible adventure they have been on.  They just arrived back in Middleton last week so we were so happy to be able to spend time hearing about their adventure and seeing the amazing pictures they have taken.
