9-19-2012 (Wednesday) Potosi to Lesterville, MO

Bicycled 53 miles today!

After loading up the B.O.B. and attaching it to the bike we parked the bike out in front of the Super 8 in Potosi this morning.  While we were eating breakfast someone came in and told us we had a flat on the B.O.B. so John had to patch the tire before we could head out today.

We finally left town at 7:40AM and immediately had hills to climb for the first 15 miles.  Once we turned off of Hwy P onto Hwy DD we had more rolling hills versus the steep ones we had the first 15 miles.

We are both so tired from bicycling the last few days that even minor hills were a chore today and we had 53 miles to go before we got to Lesterville.  About mile 25 John went to shift gears and the cable for the front derailleur broke and while he was fixing that we ended up having another flat tire on the B.O.B.  After repairing the cable John started to fix the flat tire and noticed that there was actually a piece of wire stuck right in the tire and that is what punctured the tube.  We feel pretty fortunate that this is the first day that we have had any type of mechanical problem or flat tire since we left International Falls, MN.

This was definitely a walker after the last several days of biking - our legs are just plum tuckered out!
We are really biking in the middle of no where.  53 miles and there was only one place that we could stop for anything to drink or to pick up snacks and that was a bait shop.

We arrived in Lesterville around 3:00PM and ate lunch and then checked into the Black River Family Restaurant and Motel.  We are both just plain worn out and hope to get a good night sleep as we have another long day of hills yet tomorrow to get to Cherokee Pass.  Apparently after Cherokee Pass we are out of the Ozark Mountains and will be in flatter terrain for a while.  We hope so!

Things are looking up a little bit – today we only had to make 53 miles to make the 33 miles by way of the crow.  Once again we had more ups and downs and a round to get to Lesterville.
